This guide focuses on the overall functionality of the audiences page. If you're setting up your first campaign, the Audiences chapter of our Getting Started guide (found in the Create a Campaign section) will help you through this process.
From the audience page, you will be able to see all the audiences created on your Outbase account. If you have multiple audiences, the search option at the top allows you to search by name, or filter by:
Type: File (file-based audience created by uploading a CSV file) or Search (created through the Audience Builder) Status: Assigned (connected with a campaign), Unassigned (not connected with a campaign), or Archived.
By default, the Audiences page only shows Assigned and Unassigned audiences. Archived audiences are hidden but can be shown using the status filter.
Campaign: Select a specific campaign on your account to view the audiences used for this outreach.
The page displays the following details about your audiences:
1. Audience Builder Link If your audience has been created using Audience Builder, you are able to view the audience in the Audience Builder, by clicking the link (paperclip icon) button. In the above screenshot, this is shown for the second audience, but not the top one, as the top one is a file-based audience (CSV upload). When opening the audience you can make changes to the targeting, but you will then need to save this as a new audience, as once an audience is created it can't be changed.
2. Audience Name The name you have called the audience.
3. Status Status Assigned (connected with a campaign), Unassigned (not connected with a campaign), or Archived.
4. Campaign: All campaigns the audience is assigned to will be displayed here.
5. Audience Size Shows the size of the audience broken down as: Available / Purchased or Imported / Not Imported / Total Where:
Available: The number of contacts left in the audience.
For audiences created using the Audience Builder, this is the number of contacts left in the audience whose contact details Outbase has yet to try and verify.
With audiences created using the Audience Builder, we expect to be unable to verify around 30% of contact details. This is normal, and due to the fact that Outbase is always sourcing, verifying, and checking data fresh, to reduce the number of undelivered responses and ensure data is up to date at the point of importing.
For file-based audiences added through CSV upload, this is the number of contacts imported where the audience is not assigned to a campaign.
Purchased/Imported: The number of prospects that have been imported.
Purchased is used for audiences created using the Audience Builder, and is the number of prospects where an email address has been sourced and verified, and credit(s) deducted from your account.
Imported is used for file-based audiences added through CSV upload, and is the number of contacts imported where the audience is assigned to a campaign.
Not Imported: The number of contacts in the audience, not imported into the campaign.
For audiences created using the Audience Builder, this is the number of contacts whose contact details Outbase has tried and was unable to verify details for.
For file-based audiences added through CSV upload, this is contacts where the records failed to upload.
When uploading a file-based audience through a CSV file, Outbase will check for any records (or rows) that don’t have an email address, contain an incorrectly formatted email address, and duplicate email addresses. These will be removed and you will have the option to download and review the failed records.
Total: The total number of Available, Purchased/Imported, and Not Imported contacts.
6. Source Shows if the audience was created through the Audience Builder (Search) or is a file-based audience, created by uploading a CSV file (File).
7. Created Date Shows the date the audience was created.
8. Actions Shows actions available for the audience, for more detail, see below.
Different actions are available depending on how your audience has been added to Outbase. In the image below, the top audience (1) is a file-based audience, added through a CSV upload. The second audience (2) has been created using the Audience Builder.
1. File-based audience only:
a. Upload Upload additional contacts into an already created file-based audience by using the upload button and adding an additional CSV of contact data.
b. Download Export all the contacts in the audience into a CSV file.
1 & 2. File-based audiences and audiences created with Audience Builder:
Archived Audiences:
When an audience has been archived, the only action available will be to restore the audience and return it to Assigned or Unassigned status.
Automated import of prospects
Once an audience is assigned to a campaign, prospects from that audience are automatically added to your campaign.
Instead of doing this all at once at the start of the campaign, Outbase adds sections of the audience based on your daily send volume (as set in the Campaign Scheduler) , to ensure the latest contact details are used.
c. Assign to Campaign(s) Connect the audience with selected campaign(s).
d. Archive Archive audiences that you are no longer using. Archived audiences can always be found by selecting Archived from the status filter.
